While working as a baker in college, Hal Landvoigt's fate was sealed when he was handed a glass of red wine at a party; inspiring his nearly 20 years in the wine industry. Has has spent his last 15 years in Washington State cultivating a passion of Washington wines and training under some of the state's leading winemakers.

Continuing to expand his wine education, Hal traveled extensively through some of the world's most famed wine regions including Napa, Burgundy France and Salta Argentina. He then joined Precept Wine Brands, one of Washington's most established wine companies as their Director of Winemaking. As Winemaker for Washington Hills, Hal oversees the entire winemaking process from vine to bottle and enjoys the big, fruit forward flavor profiles for which Washington wines are best known.

Winemaking
Hal’s winemaking begins with vineyard site selection. He looks for areas that offer cool nights to counterpoint the warm summer days while protecting the vineyards from winter freezes. He feels these conditions are optimal for high quality viticulture and provide grapes with varietal character and balanced acidity. Excellent sun exposure and proper soil, are perfect for producing intensely flavored fruit.

For red wines, grapes are immediately crushed before being fermented in stainless closed top fermenters at 29C for 8 days. The wine is pumped over twice daily early in the fermentation and then once daily as the fermentation nears completion.

For white wines, the grapes are immediately pressed off the skins and fermented in stainless steel tanks at a temperature of 15C for 14 days before receiving oak treatments.
